The build up to Christmas

The first week of December proved to be very busy indeed, so I thought I’d consolidate our time back in the South of England into a single blog entry. Well, it was travels of sorts!
Big screen movie night (Odeon Bloomsbury)
The Holiday.
One of my favourite Xmas movies of all time, is this feel good Christmas chick-flick from twenty years ago. I’m not sure if we’re allowed to say chick-flick any more, but hey, it may blog, so I’ll say it – twice, I just love chick-flicks (thrice).
Emma found some great value tickets via a Mastercard special offer. It cost us only £3 each, for a big screen showing of this movie up in Bloomsbury, London, PLUS a box of popcorn and drink on arrival.

A Christmas Carol, musical (Pimlico).
This was a semi compulsory attendance event, being hosted by Emma’s ex boss, Barry. I believe he was responsible for writing the script, music score, songs and just about everything that hung around this performance.
Considering this was a “for one day only” kind of performance we were blown away by the professionalism of so many of the actors. Especially Scrooge, who really did play the part.
However, given my past exposure to AmDram for almost two decades, I may need to resume counselling for PTSD 🤪🤨😳 IYKYK.

The production took place in deepest Pimlico, and after the play, we headed off to Victoria with Natalie (who is mad as a box of frogs) and Anthony (who must like frogs) to polish off a few glasses of wine (did I say glasses), before heading home.

Love Actually & Decorating the tree.
With Hannah being back in London we headed off to buy the tree and ended up watching yet another chick-flick, (I’m gonna be in trouble with someone), but this time on Netflix. We spent the night decorating it and breaking wine glasses!
I have always loved this movie. Hugh Grant plays the best Prime Minister we’ve never had, and Billy Mack is my hero!

Night out in Winchester
Always a great place to visit at Christmas.

A perfect night out with Mark and his lovely wife Lisa. A perfect Thai meal was accompanied by visits to a great pub (before) and wine bar (after). Great to catch up with wonderful chap, I first met in 2008 when we joined Serco at the same time, sharing a desk space.
Southampton – Birthday boy
A Sunday lunchtime meal with Natty. It was time to celebrate his 20th Birthday – where did that time go? Lovely to meet Marnie for the first time too.

Why is it Natty always makes playing the guitar look so effortless. I spend hours practicing and I’m hopeless in comparison. Guess he and Lauren share the same gene pool, whereas Sarah and I skipped that talent.
Impromptu visit to my Parents

Well, what can I say. We only popped in to say hi…. It ended up being a late one with far too much falling down juice consumed! We stayed overnight, which often happens these days.
