It’s been a while since my last newsletter, so I thought I’d send a quick update before the new year gets properly underway.
The big news is that Emma has finally bitten the bullet and joined me in retirement, opening up a whole new set of travel possibilities.
Even so, 2025 turned out to be pretty awesome in its own right, with over 110 days spent travelling.
The trips were wide and varied, mostly short, often low-budget, occasionally more luxurious, and the vast majority included the best travel companion I could wish for, Emma. Between us, we visited more than a dozen countries, mainly close to home in Europe, North Africa and Asia (if you count Istanbul).
We also tried out our tent box for the first time over the summer, no regrets there, although it’s probably no coincidence that the more luxurious trips happened to be the ones I did with Emma… funny that! One thing all the trips had in common though was exceptional value.
Yes, I could travel more comfortably if I travelled less, but for now, the plan is simple: keep going.
Looking ahead, we’re planning an extended tour of Australasia and South-East Asia over the next 12 months, and I’m also working on persuading Emma to join me on a road trip through North-Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. Watch this space.
On a more serious note, the past year has been a reminder of just how fragile and finite life is, with the sad passing of a few old friends. It really does drive home the importance of seizing the moment and staying active while we can.
…along with a few new static pages on topics ranging from travel hacks and early retirement to family, memories and life in general. If any of that sounds of interest, you’ll find everything via the blog or links below.
Have a great 2026 and, as always, feel free to drop me a line or leave a comment.
